I work with my therapy clients on a range of issues, such as generalised anxiety disorder, depression and low mood, stress and burnout, body image struggles, disordered eating, gender identity and sexuality, grief and bereavement, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder. My pluralistic approach is client-led and integrative, informed primarily by Humanistic, Existentialist and Feminist Therapy, and my primary toolkit is Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT).
ACT is a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is based on Acceptance, Mindfulness, and Valued Action. Acceptance involves neutralising and unhooking ourselves from rigid, self-critical and self-limiting thoughts. We learn to desensitise ourselves from difficult emotions and sensations. Mindfulness asks us to increase contact with the present moment, cultivate non-judgemental awareness to the flow of attention, and learn to become more compassionate to ourselves and others. Valued Actions is a method by which we can clarify what we really want our lives to be about, to identify and take steps towards these decisions and to create a life of purpose, passion and alignment.
