I work with my therapy clients on a range of issues, such as
- anxiety and intrusive thoughts
- depression and low mood
- stress and burnout
- body image struggles
- disordered eating
- gender identity and sexuality
- relationships
- grief and bereavement.
My approach is person-centred and integrative, which means it is client-led and pulls on a range of toolkits from across the field of counselling and psychotherapy for optimum support. Professionally, I gravitate towards Humanistic Psychotherapy and Existentialist Therapy, and I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as my primary toolkit.
ACT is a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is based on Acceptance, Mindfulness, and Valued Action. We learn to neutralise rigid, self-critical and self-limiting thoughts. We learn to desensitise ourselves from difficult emotions and sensations. And we learn to increase contact with the present moment, cultivating non-judgemental awareness. Finally, when we clarify what we really want our lives to be about, we take steps towards these decisions to create a life of purpose, power and passion.
